Top New Instagram Updates and Features You Must Know

Instagram New Updates and features you must know 💢

1] Instagram introduces the option to delete single photos from carousels
After much demand, Instagram has introduced the option to delete single photos from carousel posts.

Given that Instagram carousel posts typically earn 1.4x more reach and 3.1x more engagement than regular posts, this is good news for social media managers who want to refine their strategy, or simply go back and delete an accidental upload.

Instagram chief Adam Mosseri explained in a Reel that users can delete a specific post from a carousel of images or videos by tapping on the three dots above any post. They can then select Edit, navigate to the individual image they want to delete, and tap on the small trash icon in the top left.

2] Eligible Instagram creators in the US can now access Badges in Live
A greater number of US creators on Instagram can now earn money through Badges during their live streams.

Badges essentially let viewers “tip” creators during an Instagram Live. Users can buy badges, which appear as hearts, for $.99, $1.99 or $4.99 US. The badge then appears next to the viewer’s comments during the Live.

Previously, the feature was only available to approximately 50,000 creators.

The new criteria requires that creators:

  1. Live in the US.
  2. Are 18 years of age and above.
  3. Own a Creator or Business account.
  4. Have at least 10,000 followers.
  5. Pass and remain compliant with Instagram’s policies and guidelines.

3] Instagram brings back Twitter Card previews
Social media marketers rejoice!

Earlier this week, Instagram has begun the rollout of Twitter Card previews. This means that sharing Instagram posts to Twitter will now make a bit more sense — Tweets with links to Instagram posts will include post previews.

The feature was controversially discontinued in 2012 when Facebook first acquired Instagram.

4] Everyone cam now add Links to Instagram Stories ( regardless of Followers Count)
Instagram announced that as of October 27th, all users globally can add links to Instagram Stories.

Leading up to this change, the recently introduced link sticker tool and its predecessor, the swipe-up feature, were only available to users with over 10,000 followers.

Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri said in a Tweet that the update is the company’s response to user feedback.

5]  Instagram testing 60-Second limit for stories
Tired of Instagram breaking up your Stories into 15-second segments? This (alleged) upcoming update will make you happy.

Earlier this week, developer and social media researcher Alessandro Paluzzi spotted that Instagram is testing longer Stories.

As Instagram expands its video formats, this development seems like a natural next step in their journey to keep people engaging with the app.

6] New metrics added to Instagram Insights
During their first-ever Product Week, Instagram announced the addition of three new analytics metrics to Instagram Insights.

The new metrics will help Creator and Business account users get an even better understanding of how their content performs on the platform. Prior to the update, Insights users could only analyze their followers. The scope of Insights has now been extended to also include people who interact with an account without following it.

The new metrics available in Instagram Insights are:

●Engaged audience. This metric collects demographic data (including cities, countries, age and gender) relating to users who engage with your account and content, regardless of whether they are your followers.
●Reached audience. This metric provides demographic insights (cities, countries, age, gender) into all people reached over a period of time.
●Accounts engaged. This metric will tell you how many accounts, in total, have interacted with your Instagram content over a period of time.

7] Instagram introduces Branded Content Partnerships
Earlier this week, Instagram premiered a new monetization feature. The update is part of the company’s ongoing effort to help creators make money on the platform.

The feature is currently being trialed by a select group of creators and brands. So far, we know that it will serve as a discovery and messaging tool within the Instagram app, helping eligible brands identify creators for sponsorships and communicate with them without leaving the platform.

8] Instagram rolls out desktop publishing globally
As of October 21st, all Instagram users can create and publish feed posts from the browser version of the app.

The long-awaited desktop feature closely resembles the mobile publishing flow, and only 7 simple steps are involved:

1) Go to instagram.com and sign in to your account.
2) Click the plus symbol in the top right corner of the screen (it’s the same button you would use to create a post in the mobile app). Create new post window will pop up.
Drag photo or video files into the popup window, or click Select from computer to browse and pick files from your PC or Mac. If you want to create a carousel post, you can select up to 10 files.
4) Click the frame icon in the bottom left corner of the popup to change the ratio of your image or video. You can also use the zoom feature (looking glass icon in the bottom left) and drag your file to edit your frame. When you’re done, click Next in the top right corner.
5) Edit your image. You can select one of 12 preset effects in the Filters tab or go to the Adjustments tab and manually adjust specs such as brightness, contrast and fade. Click Next.
6) Write your caption. Click on the smiley face icon to browse and pick emojis. You can also type in a location in the Add location bar, restrict commenting in Advanced settings and add alt text to your files in the Accessibility section.
7) Click Share.

9] Instagram drops new Reels effects
Earlier this week, Instagram introduced three new video editing features for Reels, the platform’s answer to TikTok:

●Superbeat. This handy tool helps users create videos paced to the beat of the audio clip of their choosing, automatically applying edits based on the selected audio track.
●Dynamic Lyrics. This karaoke-style effect automatically ads song lyrics to a Reel for users (and audiences) to sing along to.
●3D Lyrics. The same as above — but in 3D (the future is now).
10]  New Collab feature lets users co-author posts and Reels
Instagram is testing Collabs — a new feature that will allow creators to co-author posts and Reels.

The tool will allow two usernames to be included in a post’s or Reel’s header. Content created using Collab will show up on both users’ accounts. Collaborators can be added from the app’s tagging screen.

The feature is currently only available to select users. Details regarding a global rollout have not yet been shared.
